Simple nativity art project for the whole family - FREE template!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This time of the year everything gets busy and hectic and so frantically fast that it becomes all too easy to miss out on actual, real and genuine interaction with our family and friends.

That’s why today I want to offer you and your family a fun, quick and easy art project. It’s FREE, too!

I call this project “Holy Night”. It's inspired by children's nativity themed artworks featured on Artsonia.com. It won’t take more than an hour of your time, and children really love this one.

Below are the materials you will need for this project:

  • Heavyweight Black, Yellow and White Paper
  • Pencil, Scissors, Glue
  • Blue, Purple, White acrylic or tempera paint
  • Metallic paints (gold, blue, purple) *Optional*
  • Medium Round Paint Brush
  • Nativity Scene Template - Click here for FREE PDF

Gather your kids, grand-kids, or nieces & nephews around a table with the materials listed above and have a wonderful time engaging with them!

I’ve even made a short video on what to do: https://youtu.be/2CiVbJPR6e4

I hope you and your family enjoy this little project. I know mine did as well as my students. 😊

Also, this past weekend I was at “SoFlo” showing off Kelly Kits to South-Town San Antonians. It was a great opportunity to connect with my own local community, albeit it was extremely cold . . . well, cold by South Texan standards.

My sweet husband was with me, and we met many fellow creative artists here in San Antonio. We plan to participate in more events like this in the future and hopefully if we’re near you, we'd love to meet up face-to-face!

Connection and community is integral to the mission of Kelly Kits. My hope is to offer alternatives to technology in the home and re-introduce the beauty of art in the world and the art inside all of us.

Blessings!

Play Creatively,

Kelly

It’s that time of the season and more importantly that time of the school year:

Christmas Holiday Break!

This means the kiddos are home!! What to do?!?

Well, if your household is anything like mine, it’s all about tablets, phones and gaming consoles and zero human interaction with you or the rest of your family.

Am I right? 😊

Well, I’m here to state that this year it does NOT have to be like that. Instead I’d like to offer you some creative, fun and easy art projects that will occupy the kiddos with something creative to do and most importantly they will interact and engage with you and each other!

“Impossible.”, you say.

No, I’m completely serious and 100% sincere. I want to offer to you Mom and Dad the opportunity to empower change and interaction in your homestead. That’s what a “Home” is all about, right? Having that one place in the whole world that we know we can go back to and find safety, love, encouragement and true connection.

My husband, Chris, and I have really made an exerted effort at engaging with our girls. We, too, suffer the technology-vanishing. (I made that term up because that’s what happens once the girls are on their devices: they vanish even though they are sitting right next to me!)

So, how do we get our children to actually engage with us? We are proactive in finding things for us all to do together. Fortunately, my kits offer a wealth of engagement and creativity for us all to do together.
Together…that’s what Kelly Kits is all about; creative play together.

Here is a fun and simple project the whole family will enjoy. It is best broken up into two art play sessions. This lesson features materials from my Color Chorus art kit.

You will need:
  • Assorted colors of tissue paper
  • White school glue
  • Heavyweight paper in white and assorted colors
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • White paint (acrylic or tempera)
  • Cotton swabs

Here's the link to a short video that will show you exactly how to make this colorful abstract winter landscape!

What my husband and I want for all of the Kelly Kits community is to have opportunities to make real connection with their children, grandchildren and all your little loved-ones that are in your lives. This has always been the core mission of Kelly Kits and we hope that my Kits empower you to make those connections happen in your life.

This time of the year can get so lost in crazy busyness with parties, shopping, travel and so much, much more to keep us distracted and stressed out. It’s easy to see why once the kids are back to school in January we look back and think, “WOW, where did the time go?”

We want you to have the opportunity to pause for an hour or so and get down (and a little messy) with your children and enjoy making new memories together. You children, just like mine, are being pulled by so many things vying for their attention: Social Media, YouTube, Video Games, Facetime with their friends and the list goes on. It’s up to us to make and exerted effort at spending true quality time with them.

My wish and prayer for you and your family this Christmas season is that you get that chance and you create some wonderfully colorful art together both literally and figuratively.

We love you all and wish you the Merriest of Christmases and a truly Happy New Year!
Remember Jesus Christ is the Christ in Christmas. He is the beautiful painter, sculptor and author of all existence; and he’s put art in all of us. We just have to draw it out. 😊

God bless you and yours,
Kelly and Chris
